During the meeting of the Una Europa alliance in Leiden this June, our representatives participated in sustainability-focused workshops and discussions that were organised jointly with the University of Helsinki, represented by Riina Koivuranta and Henna Puustinen. The outcome of these workshops are two reflection papers that have recently been published on the Una Europa website. The Governance and Leadership in Sustainability paper, prepared by Idalina Odziemczyk-Stawarz, Monika Woźniak, Jolanta Perek-Białas, and the members of the Sustainability and Climate Protection Task Force, addressed the necessity of organisation-wide and pragmatic-based perspectives for successful sustainable governance. The paper presents the workshop learnings and delineates focal areas where significant developments can be achieved through the implementation of a whole-institution approach, such as general governance strategy, financial and non-financial resources, and communication policies. Moreover, our representatives in the Sustainability and Climate Protection Task Force contributed to the findings, conclusions and recommendations put forward in the Community Engagement at Universities reflection paper.
