Celem Programu jest wzmocnienie umiędzynarodowienia instytucji szkolnictwa wyższego i nauki poprzez rozwój współpracy w ramach sojuszy Uniwersytetów Europejskich, w szczególności poprzez budowanie potencjału dydaktycznego, badawczego i organizacyjnego oraz rozwój wspólnych inicjatyw edukacyjnych i naukowych. Realizacja tego celu odbywa się w ramach projektu „Gotowi na przyszłość, świadomi przeszłości. Rozwój potencjału Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w zakresie zrównoważonego rozwoju i dziedzictwa kulturowego w ramach Una Europa” (BPI/WUE/2025/1/00020), którego harmonogram znajduje się poniżej. Wysokość przyznanego finansowania wynosi 1 499 918,30 PLN. Program realizowany jest przez Narodową Agencję Wymiany Akademickiej w ramach programu „Wsparcie Uniwersytetów Europejskich”.

The aim of the Programme is to strengthen the internationalisation of higher education and science institutions through the development of cooperation within the European Universities alliances, in particular by enhancing educational, research and organisational capacity, as well as by supporting joint academic and research initiatives. This objective is implemented within the project “Ready for the future, aware of the past. Development of the Jagiellonian University’s capacity in the field of sustainability and cultural heritage within Una Europa” (BPI/WUE/2025/1/00020), the schedule of which is attached below. The total funding granted for the project amounts to PLN 1,499,918.30. The Programme is implemented by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the “Support for European Universities” scheme.

Ready for the future, aware of the past. Development of the Jagiellonian University’s capacity in the field of sustainability and cultural heritage within Una Europa

The project is carried out in cooperation with partner universities within the Una Europa alliance.

Project objectives

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the internationalisation capacity of the Jagiellonian University in research and education, in particular through enhanced cooperation within the Una Europa alliance and the development of activities related to sustainability and cultural heritage.

The project contributes to this objective by:

• developing international research teams (Transnational Research Teams),
• establishing and strengthening cooperation with universities outside Europe,
• developing innovative teaching solutions and educational materials,
• enhancing the quality of education and research capacity,
• increasing the international visibility and position of the Jagiellonian University.

Key activities

The project includes a set of complementary actions:

Development of research cooperation (TRT)
Establishing and developing international research teams, identifying joint research topics and preparing future grant applications.

Intercontinental cooperation
Building partnerships with universities in Africa and Latin America, developing joint research and educational initiatives, and strengthening strategic cooperation.

Development of educational offer
Implementing innovative teaching components, including activities related to the Joint Bachelor in Sustainability programme and enhancing academic staff competences.

Academic heritage and educational innovation
Developing new teaching tools and materials, including a digital academic heritage database, courses and training activities.

Strengthening research capacity (BASUS Lab)
Developing research on sustainability education, quality assurance systems and student support in an international academic environment.

Current status of the project

According to the progress report covering the period 1 October 2025 – 31 March 2026, the project is currently in the organisational and preparatory phase.

In particular:

• communication tools have been established and research cooperation networks initiated,
• collaboration with non-European partners has been launched and joint initiatives are being prepared,
• concepts for educational activities and tools have been developed,
• organisational groundwork for subsequent stages has been prepared.

So far, the activities have been organisational and preparatory in nature and have not generated project costs.

Expected results

The project is expected to contribute to:

• the development of international research cooperation,
• increased participation of the Jagiellonian University in international projects,
• improved quality and innovation of educational offer,
• enhanced competences of academic staff and students,
• increased international visibility of the University.
