The planned Una Europa Joint Bachelor in Sustainability (BASUS) is a unique undergraduate programme – the first joint degree with such a high level of interdisciplinarity, anticipating the expectations of the labour market and providing a unique opportunity for ambitious students. BASUS is designed by eleven universities that form Una Europa: Uniwersytet Jagielloński (coordinator), KU Leuven, Helsingin yliopisto, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Universiteit Leiden, Universität Zürich, Freie Universität Berlin, University College Dublin, University of Edinburgh, and Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna. The project is linked to the development of the Una Europa Focus Area Sustainability.

Una Europa Task Force for Sustainability and Climate Protection is a platform for exchanging experiences and working on strategies related to the sustainability of partner universities in the wider context of the entire alliance. As part of CASS, we transpose the provisions of Una Europa to the university level, while contributing to the development of reporting schemes that will enable the Jagiellonian University to achieve high results in prestigious rankings. As some of the Task Force's solutions will be included in documents intended for a wider audience, our role will consist of both specifying the assumptions and supporting the creation of general guidelines.

We are working on the development of international cooperation in contexts related to, inter alia, Earth System Governance, Rights of Nature and holistic science, combining primarily the contributions of the humanities, social, exact and natural sciences. Our activities complement and develop previously initiated research projects (see the dedicated website). The project refers to the UN Harmony with Nature programme.

The aim of the BASUS Lab is to look at the Una Europa Joint Bachelor in Sustainability (BASUS) as a teaching experiment. The novelty of BASUS lies in its unprecedented level of interdisciplinarity at the sixth level of the European Qualifications Framework, its interesting mobility scheme and innovative pathway model, as well as its being a living example of research-based didactics, just to name a few aspects. The experience gained during the creation of the program can constitute a valuable source of information and constructive criticism. The first action taken as part of BASUS Lab was the participation of the CASS representatives in Helsinki Sustainability Science Days (May 2023), where they took part in a conference and open discussions on the planned study programme in the context of holistic science.
